When you are committed to following the path of your souls purpose, there will be times that you will be called to do things that are outside of your comfort zone. You will be asked to close doors, open new ones, cease toxic binds, perhaps even move interstate! Fear is a call to release old paradigms so that you can rise into the higher realms of consciousness and your unique soul alignment, otherwise known as your Sacred Soul-Print.
The unfurling of your soul path is not an easy journey. Collectively, we are in a time of great change, we are shaking up old belief systems in order to rise into our greatest and most actualised selves. But often with that rise and expansion comes a feeling of fear.
We are constantly shedding old skins on this path. There are pressures both inner and outer that will try to impinge on your progress and keep you trapped in egoic fear so that you never reach your spiritual birth or activate your true potential. Old paradigms are crumbling and falling away. I understand how this falling away makes you feel vulnerable and scared, but please know that this does not mean you and your life are falling apart. Anything that is currently breaking down or falling away is creating space for expansion and growth.
Fear was a primary theme in my life for as long as I can remember. Fear used to paralyse me from taking steps I knew I needed to take to get me moving forward in the direction I wanted to go in. And whilst it is still a part of my life, the shift now is that I can feel the fear but not let it stop me from moving forward. When we are stuck in fear and worry thoughts, they grow. Fear can either cripple us or we can use it to propel ourselves forward.
On a physiological level, fear is a vital response to percieved physical + emotional danger. If we didn't feel it, we couldn't protect ourselves from legitimate threats. But so often, many of our fears are irrational + are causing no immediate danger to ourselves. We are creatures of habit & comfort. And whilst getting out of our comfort zone can be exciting, there is no denying that it can also be terrifying. Realising we have a choice at how we respond to fear, is incredibly empowering.
I know first hand how tempting it is to hold on and be attached to what is familiar and known as if your life literally depends on it for survival. But that's it, don't you see, you are born for more than "survival" sometimes we have to die to what we know in order to rebirth ourselves so that we can thrive. So my question is: Do you welcome fear, change and resistance when it knocks at your soul temple, or do you shun her? Imagine if you could make peace with your fear? Befriend her, nurture her and tend to her like your child.
The path of most resistance will lead you to the most beautiful places. No doubt you have already proven that to yourself, dear one.... Know however, when resistance is your intuition alerting you to the fact that something FEELS off, and yes my love, course correct, set a boundary, close the door. Fear is nothing but a series of thoughts strung together that evoke a physiological sensation. Fear is a call back to LOVE.
Here are some tools to support you for the inevitable times when resistance and fear comes knocking on your soul temple.
Be An Explorer And Don't Be Afraid To Make A Wrong Turn:
Inspired action creates little ripple effects across all areas of your life. It’s in the action that we find out what mistakes are experientially. Instead of being worried about making a mistake, how would it be if you could allow space for learning as you go? It really IS okay to stumble & make a mistake. It just means that you have the experience and insight to do things differently next time. There is this wonderful high that occurs after you’ve taken action that you were afraid to take. It's like an exhilarating rush. Use that high to your advantage. Make it an incentive that leads & propels you forward. Allow it to create momentum, consistency + a gateway for more. Gradually exposing ourselves to our personal fears is the best way to move past them.
"Go with your curiousities and with what expands your heart, life, soul and business. Go with what feels good, even if it is a little daunting at first."
Connect With Nature:
One of the best things we can do with ourselves to move fear energy through our body is to connect with nature. Get out in the sunshine, walk amongst the wildflowers, along the shoreline, in the forest. Notice the birds and come back into your body. If you are ruminating on a thought or problem, one of the best ways to shift your focus is to drop out of your head and into your body. Move your body to move your mind.
Remind Yourself Of Your Why:
What is the greater cause or purpose for the nature of the work you are doing and WHY is it important that you stretch and expand yourself and lean towards fear and resistance? My Core Reasons: My calling to of service in the world, to live courageously aligned with my souls purpose and embody the authentic expression of my inner-self. I want to dare greatly and leap into what expands my heart and soul.
Find a comfortable spot to sit. Close your eyes + bring your attention to you breath. With each inhale, hold your breath for 5 seconds + notice the rise and fall of your chest. Completely fill your lungs with each draw in and release with each exhale. If breathing feels uneven or if there's any tension or tightness, imagine all of the tension dissolving with every exhale. When you are ready, slowly open your eyes.
Understanding The Core Belief:
Quite often our fears will have stemmed from an experience or trauma in our past. Maybe our fear state has been passed on through the lineage in our family. FEAR is such an umbrella term. If you can understand what specifically you are afraid of happening, you can then begin challenging your irrational beliefs and then forming new beliefs you wish to hold. Rewiring lifetimes of old beliefs takes consistency and diligence. We don't just say an affirmation once and then the fear state never comes back. When I find myself procrastinating or resisting something, I know that there is some kind of fear underlying it. So I peel off a layer + uncover what it is I'm afraid of.
"Fear is nothing but a state of mind. The only limitation is that which one sets up in one's own mind.” ~Napoleon Hill.
Clear Your Environment:
I've noticed a direct correlation to the clutter in my home and the emotional clutter in my mind. Never underestimate the power of doing the dishes, putting on a load of washing, taking out the trash and bagging up old clothes and belongings you no longer need. There is something so refreshing and cleansing about only having what you absolutely need. Generally speaking, when we have a cluttered environment we feel restless and chaotic and stressed. Get out the crystals and sage. Wipe down surfaces, create space. Embrace simplicity, infuse white light.
Kick Perfectionism To The Curb:
Perfection is an illusion. In my experience it is never enough. It's damn exhausting fighting a battle you can't win. When we release the need to be perfect, we create space for our natural rhythm & flow to take over. We allow ourselves to show up, be of service + connect with others in an authentic way.
Reach Out For Support:
People are more than willing to lend an ear or reassure you-but here's the thing, they aren't mind-readers. If you struggle with having needs this is not always an easy thing to do. Do it anyway. Do it for you. Return the favour. Have a list of top 3 people you can call or text when you need to chat. Or hire a coach. As humans we thrive on connection and it's perfectly okay to need a bit of help now and then. Most people feel good knowing that they can support you. I know that the times I have been there for a friend in need, I get the warm fuzzies. Trust that the feeling is mutual for those who care about you.
"The heart never gives up, never settles for anything less than the consummation of the deepest longings of the soul." ~Oriah Mountain Dreamer.
Mindfulness + Meditation.
Keep bringing yourself back to the 'now'. Worrying about things before they even happen is a sure fire way to make you stressed. Sit somewhere away from distractions, close your eyes and focus on the inhale and exhale of your breath, the rise and fall of your chest. Put on some meditation music, either guided or just tranquil music. When you are calm and back in your body go back to what you were doing. Get up and go for a mindful walk around the block. Notice the flowers, the sound of birds. Be totally present. You've heard the call, you've responded. You're excited, and then the fear and overthinking kicks in.
Write Out Some Positive Affirmations:
The ones I am using at the moment:
"I am safe, here and now.
"All is well."
"The future will take care of itself."
"I trust myself."
"I am brave."
"I am open and receptive to all the abundance that surrounds me."
"It is my birthright to live fully and freely."
"Peace begins with me. The more peaceful I am inside, the more peace I have to share with others."
"I don't need other people's approval to love my decisions."
Change is never easy so it's important to do nice things for you and nourish all aspects of your divine self. Work on your Root Chakra, drink plenty of water and eat lots of fresh organic plant based foods. Get on your yoga mat, have an early night, switch off all social media.
Challenge Your Worry Thoughts:
You've got to believe in yourself. Courage in conviction. Manifesting what you desire. Calling it in and trusting the process. Ask yourself~
"What is the worst thing that could happen?"
"What is so bad about this?"
"Am I being irrational?"
"Is this thought unhelpful or helpful?" (thankyou years of CBT training, I knew you would come in handy again one day;)
"Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.” ~Gilder Radner
When we call ourselves back to a LOVING STATE, we can EXPAND on that love and allow it to permeate our entire lives. Choose the thoughts that lift you higher, not tear you down or make you want to retreat into fear patterns.
What do you do when fear creeps in, dear one? How can you soothe yourself and tune into your higher self for guidance and wisdom?
