The past few years I have been drawn deep into the texts of the original and classic Spiritual Teachers. From the likes of Sonia Choquette, Marianne Williamson, James Redfield, Amma, The Dalai Lama, Carl Jung, Caroline Myss and more, I wanted to get my paws on them ALL. With such a flooded market of new age spirituality books, it can be easy to get lost amongst the fluff. I wanted get to the heart and bones of what I know to be true. I wanted to be taught by the best and to once again become the keen and enthusiastic learner that I always have been. One of those classic books was The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success, By Deepak Chopra.
I began reading The Seven Spiritual Laws when I first started writing the draft for A New Paradigm For Success and I resonated so deeply with the Laws, that I felt it would be of value to include it here. And so naturally, part two and three emerged....
The Seven Spiritual Laws are powerful principles you can use to fulfill your deepest desires with effortless joy. Inspired by ancient wisdom, Hindu and Spiritual concepts, which teach the idea that personal success is not the outcome of hard work, precise plans or a driving ambition, but rather of understanding our basic nature as human beings and how to follow the laws of nature.
In the natural world, creation comes forth with ease. A seed doesn’t struggle to become a tree―it simply unfolds in grace. And that is essentially how success and the fulfilment of your deepest desires and dreams should feel.
That is how living in alignment with your values should feel. A sense of flow and effortlessness. Now that is of course not to say that there will never be times that will be difficult. The difference is that when we embody these universal truths, we become the conscious co-creators of our lives.
Law One: The Law of Pure Potentiality
When you discover your essential nature and know who you really are, in that knowing itself is the ability to fulfill any dream you have, because you are the eternal possibility, the immeasurable potential of all that was, is and will be.
This law is based on the fact that we are, in our essential state, pure consciousness. Pure consciousness is pure potentiality; it is the field of all possibilities and infinite creativity. This law could also be called the Law of Unity, because underlying the infinite diversity of life is the unity of one all-pervasive spirit.
There is no separation between you and this field of energy. One way to access the field is through the daily practice of silence, meditation and non-judgment. Spending time in nature will also give you access to the qualities inherent in the field: infinite creativity, freedom and bliss.
Embodying The Law Of Pure-Potentiality:
"I will get in touch with the field of pure potentiality by taking time each day to be silent, to just BE."
"I carve out time for silent meditation at least twice a day for approximately 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening."
"I will take time each day to commune with nature and to silently witness the intelligence within every living thing."
"In the ecstasy of my own silence, and by communing with nature, I will enjoy the life throb of ages, the field of pure potentiality and unbounded creativity."
"I will practice non-judgment. I will begin my day with the statement, “Today, I shall judge nothing that occurs,” and throughout the day I will remind myself not to judge."
Law Two: The Law of Giving (and receiving)
This law could also be called the Law of Giving and Receiving, because the universe operates through dynamic exchange. The flow of life is nothing other than the harmonious interaction of all the elements and forces that structure the field of existence.
Because your body and your mind and the universe are in constant and dynamic change, stopping the circulation of energy is like stopping the flow of blood. Whenever blood stops flowing, it begins to clot, to stagnate.
That is why you must give and receive in order to keep wealth and affluence-or anything you want--circulating in your life. If our only intention is to hold on to our money and hoard it-since it's life energy, we will stop its circulation back into our lives as well.
In order to keep that energy coming to us, we have to keep the energy circulating. Thus, the more you give, the more you will receive. The best way to put The Law of Giving into operation is to make a decision that any time you come into contact with anyone, you will give them something.
It doesn't have to be in the form of material things; it could be a flower, a compliment or a prayer. In fact, the most powerful forms of giving are non-material. The gifts of caring, attention, affection, appreciation and love are some of the most precious gifts you can give, and they don't cost you anything.
Embodying The Law Of Giving (and receiving):
"Wherever I go, and whomever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer."
"Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth, and affluence in my life and in the lives of others."
"Today I will gratefully receive all the gifts that life has to offer me."
"I will receive the gifts of nature: sunlight, the sound of birds singing, spring showers, or the first snow of winter. I will also be open to receiving from others, whether it be in the form of a material gift, money, a compliment, or a prayer."
"I will make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in my life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection, appreciation, and love."
"Each time I meet someone, I will silently wish them happiness, joy, and laughter."
Law Three: The Law of Karma (or Cause and Effect)
Karma implies the action of conscious choice-making. Everything that is happening at this moment is a result of the choices you've made in the past. Unfortunately, a lot of us make choices unconsciously, and therefore we don't think they are choices-and yet, they are.
If you step back for a moment and witness the choices you are making as you make those choices, then in just this act of witnessing, you take the whole process from the unconscious realm into the conscious realm. This is the stream of consciousness that I speak of so passionately.
"Karma" is both action and the consequence of that action; it is cause and effect simultaneously, because every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in kind. There is nothing unfamiliar about the Law of Karma. Everyone had heard the expression, "What you sow is what you reap." Obviously, if we want to create happiness in our lives, we must learn to sow the seeds of happiness.
This procedure of conscious choice-making and witnessing is very empowering. You can use the Law of Karma to create money and affluence, and the flow of all good things to you, any time you want. But first, you must become consciously aware that your future is generated by the choices you are making in every moment of your life.
If you do this on a regular basis, then you are making full use of this law. The more you bring your choices into the level of your conscious awareness, the more you will make those choices which are spontaneously correct--both for you and those around you.
Embodying The Law Of Karma:
"Today I will witness the choices I make in each moment."
"In the mere witnessing of these choices, I will bring them to my conscious awareness. "
"I will know that the best way to prepare for any moment in the future is to be fully conscious in the present."
"Whenever I make a choice, I will ask myself two questions:"
“What are the consequences of this choice that I’m making?” and
“Will this choice bring fulfillment and happiness to me and also to those who are affected by this choice?”
Ask your heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or discomfort. If the choice feels comfortable, plunge ahead with abandon. If the choice feels uncomfortable, pause and see the consequences of your action with your inner vision. This guidance will enable you to make spontaneously correct choices for yourself and for all those around you.
As you can see, none of this is rocket science, however, I truly feel that embodying these laws is a beautiful way to bring more conscious decisions into our life and to be the best version of ourselves, for ourselves and for others.
Until next week where I share Part 3, I would LOVE for you to get in touch and let me know one thing you can do to begin applying these laws into your life. Comment below and let me know your thoughts.
